Welcome to Healthcare Systems Simulation International. By accessing the HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS SIMULATION INTERNATIONAL INC.  website at http://www.HSSI.com you are agreeing to be bound by our privacy policy which explains how we collect, safeguard, and disclose information.  If you do not agree with any of these terms you are not permitted to use or access this site.

COOKIES are small files stored on your device (computer or mobile device).

COMPANY OWNERS are the persons who started HSSI and have populated the HSSI website.

DATA CONTROLLER means a natural or legal person who (either alone or jointly or in common with other persons) determines the purposes for which and the manner in which any personal data are, or are to be, processed. For the purpose of this Privacy Policy, we are a Data Controller of your data.

DATA PROCESSORS (OR SERVICE PROVIDERS) means any natural or legal person who processes the data on behalf of the Data Controller. We may use the services of various Service Providers in order to process your data more effectively.

DATA SUBJECT is any living individual who is the subject of Personal Data.

EMPLOYEE is a person hired by the company to support an educational offering or website related need.

FACULTY are healthcare professionals and/or human factor experts who will be participate in teaching the educational courses.

PERSONAL DATA means data about a living individual who can be identified from those data (or from those and other information either in our possession or likely to come into our possession).

SERVICE means the http://www.HSSI.com website operated by Healthcare Systems Simulation International.

THE USER is the individual using our Service. The User corresponds to the Data Subject, who is the subject of Personal Data.

USAGE DATA is data collected automatically either generated by the use of Service or from Service infrastructure itself (for example, the duration of a page visit).

Use of the Website

Permission is granted to temporarily download one copy of materials on the website if you are a registrant in one of the educational courses for the sole purpose of furthering his or her understanding of the course attended.  You may not:

  • modify or copy the materials

  • redistribute or use for publication or any commercial purpose or public display (commercial or non-commercial) without written authorization from the company owners

  • remove any copyright or other proprietary notations (service marks, trademarks as well as those from our affiliates) from the materials; or

  • attempt to decompile or reverse engineer any software contained on the Website web site;

  • transfer the materials to another person or "mirror" the materials on any other server

Permission will automatically terminate if you violate any of these these restrictions, or do no proceed with registration in one of the educational courses. If permission is terminated you must destroy any downloaded materials in your possession whether in electronic or printed format.

The materials on the website are provided “as is”. The company makes no no warranties, expressed or implied, and hereby disclaims and negates all other warranties, including without limitation, implied warranties or conditions of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement of intellectual property or other violation of rights. Further, the Company does not warrant or make any representations concerning the accuracy, likely results, or reliability of the use of the materials on its Website or otherwise relating to such materials or on any sites linked to the Website.

The company has reviewed all of the sites linked to this site, but is not responsible for the contents of any such linked site. If you click a third party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. The inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by the Company of the site. Use of any such linked website is at the user's own risk.

LIMITATIONS

In no event shall the company or its faculty be liable for any damages (including, without limitation, damages for loss of data, research results, clinical application of learning, interruption to healthcare services) arising out of the use or inability to use the materials on the Website, even if the Company or a Company authorized representative has been notified orally or in writing of the possibility of such damage.

REVISIONS AND ERRATA

The Company does not warrant that any of the materials on its web site are accurate, complete, or current. The Company may make changes to the materials contained on the Website at any time without notice. By using this web site, you are agreeing to be bound by the then current version of website usage terms.

The Company does not, however, make any commitment to update the materials.

Our Website and the materials on, or linked from, the Website may contain our service marks or trademarks as well as those of our affiliates or other persons or companies, in the form of words, graphics, and logos. Our Website including the materials is also protected under international copyright laws. Your use of our Website or the materials does not grant you ownership rights of any kind therein. The copying, redistribution, use or publication by you of any portion of our Website or the materials is strictly prohibited and therefore may not to be copied or reproduced without first obtaining our written authorization.

Use of any materials on this Website is predicated on the user having been a registrant and they will therefore be used by them only and for the sole purpose of furthering his or her understanding of the course attended.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

In no circumstances shall the Company, or our data controllers, data processors, faculty, course providers or employees be responsible or liable for any loss or damages whatsoever, including (without limiting the generality of the foregoing) any direct, indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential damages, arising from or in connection with your use of, access to or your reliance on, or your inability to use or access, this Website or any content.

GENERAL TERMS

Our Legal Terms shall be treated as though it were executed and performed in the Province of Alberta, Canada and shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of that region without regard to conflict of law principles. In addition, you agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction and venue of the courts within that region.

Should any part of our Legal Terms be held invalid or unenforceable, that portion shall be construed consistent with applicable law and the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.

PRIVACY

To the extent that any content conflicts or is inconsistent with our Legal Terms, our Legal Terms shall supersede and be paramount the construction of them together. Our failure to enforce any provision of our Legal Terms shall not be deemed a waiver of such provision nor of the right to enforce such provision. Our rights under our Legal Terms shall survive the termination of our Legal Terms.

We consider privacy to be a very important matter and as such we are committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information of those to whom it provides services. This Privacy Policy incorporates the applicable portions of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada), the Personal Information Protection Act (Alberta) and the ten principles set out in the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information (collectively “Legislation”).

COLLECTION OF INFORMATION

We collect several different types of information for various purposes to provide and improve our Service to you. If required, and where practical, we will try to collect personal information directly from the person to whom the information pertains. Where necessary, we will collect personal information from other sources. We will collect only the personal information necessary for the purposes stated in this Privacy Policy. The information we collect may include but is not limited to:

  • Email address

  • First name and last name

  • Phone number

  • Address, Country, State, Province, ZIP/Postal code, City

  • Cookies and Usage Data: which may include the type of device you use, the IP address of your device, your operating system, type of internet browser you use

The Legislation provides that an individual is deemed to consent to the collection, use or disclosure of personal information about that individual for a particular purpose if the individual voluntarily provides the information for that purpose, and it is reasonable that a person would voluntarily provide that information.

In general, the registration for our courses and the use of materials provided by us to a person constitutes implied consent for us to collect, use and disclose personal information for all identified purposes, as defined below. A person may withdraw his or her consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice to us. Individuals may contact us for more information regarding the implications of withdrawing consent.

USE OF INFORMATION

We collect personal information for the following purposes (the “identified purposes”):

  • to establish and maintain relationships with persons using our services;

  • to provide requested and ongoing services

  • to notify you of changes to our services;

  • to obtain a better understanding of who is accessing our services and their requirements and preferences;

  • to develop, enhance, improve and/or market services;

  • to monitor the usage of our services

  • to manage and improve our business and operations; and

  • to meet legal and regulatory requirements.

  • to detect, prevent and address technical issues;

  • to fulfil any other purpose for which you provide it;

  • to carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, including for billing and collection;

  • to provide you with notices about your account and/or subscription, including expiration and renewal notices, email-instructions, etc.;


DISCLOSURE

We will not use or disclose personal information for purposes other than that for which it was collected, except with the consent of the person or as permitted or required by law. We may ask you for consent to use pictures and videos taken during educational offerings to use on our website, marketing, conference presentations, research and potential journal publications. Consent means you wave any proprietary rights to any material generated by the video recording or photographic image and you hereby release HSSI and its faculty, agents and sub-contractors from any or all claims, actions and liability for damages, losses or expenses of any sort which may arise in connection with such video recording or photographic image and its use. I understand that I have the right to refuse to grant this consent.

We may disclose personal information to third parties, including the organization sponsoring your registration in any one of our courses and anyone who in our reasonable judgment is seeking the personal information as an agent or authorized representative of the person to whom the personal information relates; a company or individual employed or retained by us to perform functions on our behalf, including research; data processing; preparation and delivery of services; mailing and other modes of provision of information.

PROTECTION

We will make reasonable efforts to protect personal information by using reasonable safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification regardless of the format in which it is held. Be aware that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. The legislation also allows us, for legal or business purposes, to retain personal information for as long as is reasonable and resolve disputes.

ACCESS

Upon written request, we will inform a person of the existence, use and disclosure of and will give a person reasonable access to his or her personal information, except where we are required by law to deny such access or as permitted by law and we have legitimate reasons to deny such access. In certain situations, we may not be able to provide access to all the personal information that we hold about a person, for example, if access would reveal personal information about another individual or would reveal confidential commercial information. If access is denied, we will provide the reasons for denying access and the forms of recourse that the person has. We will respond to a person’s request within a reasonable time and not later than the time required by law, subject to extensions permitted by law, in which case we will notify the person of such extension, the reason for the extension, the time when a response from us can be expected and the types of recourse a person may have in relation to the decision to extend

Payments

We may provide paid products and/or services within Service. In that case, we use third-party services for payment processing (e.g. payment processors).

We will not store or collect your payment card details. That information is provided directly to our third-party payment processors whose use of your personal information is governed by their Privacy Policy. These payment processors adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. PCI-DSS requirements help ensure the secure handling of payment information.

Attendance at any course we offer is offered to the registrant only and such right is not transferable without our prior written authorization. All requests for cancelling a course registration must be received by us in writing at least fourteen (14) days or more before the course start date. All such requests either: (1) receive a refund of course registration fees minus an administration fee of $250.00 CAD; OR (2) receive a credit in the amount of previously paid course registration fees that can be applied towards course registration for a future Healthcare Systems Simulation International course. All requests for cancelling a course receive within 13 or fewer days before the course start date will result in forfeiture of course registration fees in full.
